OGSM
Reference model
Objective, Goals, Strategies and Measures read left to right: each column answers the one before it.
About this model
OGSM puts the whole plan on one page: an Objective that says where the business is going, the Goals that make it measurable, the Strategies that say how, and the Measures that show each strategy is working. Everyone can see how their work supports the objective.
The OGSM planning method — a one-page descendant of Management by Objectives and Japanese hoshin kanri, widely used in consumer-goods companies · Late 20th century
How to read it
- Write one Objective: an inspiring statement of what the business is trying to become or achieve this year, not a number.
- Give it three to five Goals with a number and a date, then the Strategies — how the business will reach each goal — and a Measure and target for every strategy.
- Check the chain: every goal has a strategy, every strategy a measure, target and owner, and the whole thing fits on one page.
What this does
Cascades Objectives, Goals, Strategies and Measures into one page everyone can hold themselves to.
When to use it
Early Growth through Growth/Scale, as an annual planning ritual.
What happens next
